Personal Details

Collin Johns grew up in Laytonsville, MD, and resided in Baltimore, MD, until he moved to Austin, TX, in 2022 to focus on his pickleball development. His family is passionate about sports which explains why two of the biggest pickleball stars are brothers!

Johns was in a public relationship with pickleball influencer Sydney Steinaker for quite some time, but it appears the two have gone separate ways, although neither has explicitly confirmed a breakup.

Collin Johns is not new to racquet sports. From table tennis to platform tennis and pickleball, racquet athleticism comes naturally to this pro athlete. He has coached junior high-performance tennis, published for magazines, and even started his own company in the sports space.

When he’s not competing or coaching, Collin enjoys playing chess, reading, and writing.

Pickleball Rankings & Career

Collin Johns hasn’t been playing pickleball for long, but that doesn’t mean he’s lacking in skill. He first began playing pickleball in 2018 and competed in his first major pickleball tournament in 2019. Since then, Collin Johns has remained ranked in the top 10 for both men’s singles and doubles. When he’s playing doubles, his regular doubles partner is Ben Johns, his younger brother.

Before going pro in pickleball, Collin Johns was a tennis pro for five years. His career-high ATP ranking was #978 in singles and #939 in doubles. After phasing out of professional tennis playing, he worked at Florida Gulf Coast University as an assistant coach for their junior high performance and collegiate tennis team. Under his coaching, the tennis team made it to the 2019 Atlantic Sun Conference Division Title and to an NCAA tournament.

Collin Johns is currently ranked #5 in the Professional Pickleball Association rankings. Most recently, he won the 2021 US Open Title for Men’s Pro Doubles with his brother. Collin Johns has extended his pickleball talents beyond tournaments, though.

Until the end of 2021, Collin worked as the full-time Head Racquets Professional at Baltimore Country Club. In 2022 he made a move to work at Austin Pickle Ranch in Austin, TX. His time on the ranch is spent training professionally to further his career.

Johns co-founded Pickleball 360, an instructional video subscription service that he continues to be involved with as a co-owner. Collin also holds a position as a Coach Developer and columnist for the Professional Pickleball Registry. He has work featured in large publications, including Pickleball Magazine. Needless to say, Collin Johns is a multitalented pro athlete that shows his skills in more ways than one.

Pickleball Paddle

Since partnering with Electrum Pickleball for a sponsorship, Collin Johns has been loyal to his Electrum E pickleball paddle. This paddle has an elongated shape with an expertly balanced design. The 16mm core makes it easy to achieve the perfect touch on the ball, while a gritty surface creates excellent ball spin.

There is a large sweet spot that offers consistency across the face of the paddle. If Collin Johns can win tournaments using this paddle, it must be worth checking out!
