Here is what to expect from this year’s tournament and how to register.
2022 Oak Island Fall “Battle at the Beach” Details
Location
The Oak Island “Battle at the Beach” tournament will be held at Middleton Park Pickleball Courts located at 4601 E. Oak Island Dr., Oak Island, NC 28465. This is a beautiful venue to play at, with features such as beach access just across the street, a community center, restrooms, and more.
Dates and Broadcasting
The tournament will be held from April 22nd to April 23, 2023. Unfortunately, the events will not be broadcasted, but this year you can keep up through pickleballbrackets.com if you choose.
Prize Money
Everyone always wants to know the payout for every pickleball tournament; however, the Oak Island tournament is a fundraiser for the Friends of Parks Foundation, so there is no official prize money. Winning a game may not have prize money, but you are in luck because tournament sponsors will have raffles, giveaways, and games of strategy with cash prizes.
Tournament Formatting
The tournament will be played in Round Robin format. Brackets with three teams will consist of one game to 15 points, where you have to win by 1. Brackets of 4 teams will also play one game but to only 11 points.
Round Robin matches will be used for seeding brackets of five or more teams. Then the top two seeds will play for gold. With eight or more teams, the bracket will be split into pools which will play in a Round Robin format where the top two teams in each pool will advance to a single-elimination medal round.
Player Recovery
There will also be a recovery area for players to receive free food and water. Additionally, there are two restaurants and a Publix grocery store within walking distance of Middleton Park if you need a break!
Competition Events
Competition events will be divided into the usual Men’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles, and Women’s Doubles, with those brackets being further divided by skill rating (<3.0, 3.0, 3.5, >4.0, and >4.5) for each.
Age Requirements
The minimum age to compete is 16, and you can expect players of a wide age range to participate.
Maximum Number of Teams
The maximum number of teams for the Men’s and Mixed Doubles categories will be 16, while for Women’s Doubles, it will be capped at 12 teams. It is important to note that this tournament does not offer any Singles brackets.
